Architect Turns to Parasol for Value-Engineered Solution with Design Integrity
The Challenge: Family Home Health Agency of Memphis partnered with a local architectural firm to give its aging building a facelift. The architect designed a beautiful sequence of colorful fabric tension structures to cover the facility’s “event area”. He also proposed unusual mesh window coverings for sun protection and visual interest.
When the design was priced out, the architect learned that the complex fabric engineering and cabling requirements associated with the tension structures made them cost prohibitive in light of the client’s budget. The architect approached Parasol Awnings for an alternative solution that wouldn’t detract from the overall design.

The Solution: Parasol designed a solution to replace the tension structures that offered a similar look at 50 percent of the original projected cost. Hidden steel supports were added and the fabric was attached directly to the steel framing vs. the steel framing being completely exposed. While maintaining the contemporary look of a tension structure, Parasol was able to offer its architectural customer a solution that was a huge hit with the Family Home Health Agency.
